Suspect in murder of CDO mayor’s relatives arrested
Suspect Alikhan Dimnatang heads the Dimnatang kidnap-for-ransom group and has pending arrest warrants for murder, frustrated murder, and attempted murder

ILIGAN CITY, Philippines – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) recently arrested the leader of a notorious kidnap-for-ransom group who were responsible for, among others, the murders of two relatives of Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno almost a decade ago.

Suspect Alikhan Dimnatang – leader of the Dimnatang kidnap-for-ransom group which has been operating in Cagayan de Oro City, Iligan City, Marawi City and the two provinces of Lanao – was arrested Sunday, June 14, in a joint operation by the NBI, the Philippine National Police, and the Armed forces of the Philippines.

NBI-Iligan chief Alex Cabornay said Dimnatang was nabbed in his house in Bacayu, Iligan City, after “10 hours of blocking maneuvers, cordoning and stake out.”

Dimnatang and his group had pending arrest warrants for murder, frustrated murder and attempted murder, according to NBI.

Aside from being responsible for the murders of the Cagayan de Oro mayor’s relatives in Lanao del Norte in 2006, the group was also tagged in the abduction of Alirazul Manunggiring last April 27 in Iligan City.

The group demanded P2-million ransom but the victim’s family was only able to pay P500,000. The 22-year-old kidnap victim was released on April 29.

Dimnatang is now under the custody of NBI-Iligan. – Rappler.com
