
Here’s another growing use for social media– employee recruitment. In China, where the headhunter industry is not as developed, companies are turning to social media to find potential hires. Auditing and consulting company Deloitte offers a “virtual office tour” that’s built like a videogame, allowing visitors to visit meeting rooms and talk to employees. When it needed interns, the company filled-in the vacancies within hours from its online community. Hotel chain Marriott launched a successful recruitment campaign that saw Chinese hotels submitting videos about their establishments. Plans are in the works to launch a social game using China’s equivalent of Facebook– Renren, to entice users to virtually manage a restaurant. In a survey of HR professionals worldwide, 46% of respondents say social media sites are effective tools for recruiting and finding quality candidates, up from 36% last year.
