DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The municipal mayor of Jose Abad Santos municipality in Davao del Sur was arrested for illegal possession of firearms on Thursday, August 2.
Mayor Jimmy Joyce was arrested after a predawn search in his house that led to the confiscation of 11 high-powered firearms, 1 low-powered firearm, a rifle grenade, assorted magazines, ammunition, scopes and rifle bags, said Superintendent Marcial Magistrado, PNP southern Mindanao spokesman.
Also arrested with Joyce were Ronnie Pandamon, Arnel Dionesio, Victorio Venancio, Hernan Miguel, Floro Arquillano and a certain Boro Tilo, all members of the town’s civil security unit, added Magistrado.
The police spokesman said that the search warrant was issued on July 25. – Rappler.com
