Graft charges filed vs OMB chief Ronnie Ricketts, 4 others
The Optical Media Board officials are accused of allowing seized pirated DVDs and CDs to be recovered by their owners just hours after a raid in 2010

MANILA, Philippines – Graft charges were filed against 5 Optical Media Board (OMB) officials led by its chairman, Ronnie Ricketts, before the anti-graft court Sandiganbayan on Thursday, June 25.

Prosecutor Janet Cabigas-Vejerano accused Ricketts and his co-defendants of the unlawful release of hundreds of DVDs and CDs containing pirated films seized by the OMB during a raid on Sky High Marketing Corporation in Quiapo, Manila, in 2010.

His co-defendants are OMB executive director Cyrus Paul Valenzuela, Enforcement and Inspection Division (EID) head Manuel Mangubat, investigation agent Joseph Arnaldo, and computer operator Glenn Perez.

Bail bonds for the accused were set at P30,000 each.

Based on the charge sheet approved by Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales, the OMB reportedly allowed Sky High to recover the seized items within a few hours after the raid.

The Ombudsman said the loss of the evidence prejudiced the case that should have been filed against Sky High, and caused damage against public interest and the government. – Rappler.com
