‘Gener’ death toll hits 41

The NDRRMC reports more deaths from the typhoon, which left the Philippines August 2

MANILA, Philippines – The death toll from Typhoon Gener (international codename Saola) has climbed to 41, the National Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Saturday, August 4.

In a situation report issued at 6 a.m., the NDRRMC said the typhoon left 41 people dead, 35 injured and 4 missing in various parts of the country.

NDRRMC also reported that a total of 68 roads, two bridges, and 4,883 houses were damaged due to heavy rains, floods, and landslides caused by the typhoon.

The total cost of damage to infrastructure and agriculture lands stood at P289.85 million.

Gener battered the country early this week and left the Philippine area of responsibility on August 2. – Rappler.com
