Over 2M tourists visited PH by mid-year

About 2.14 million tourists visited the country in the first 6 months of 2012, Deputy Palace Spokesperson Abigail Valte said on Sunday, August 5. This is less than half of this year’s 4.6-million target set by the tourism department, but is 11.7% higher than 2011’s half-year tourist figures. The main sources of tourists to the country are South Korea, the US, Japan, China, Taiwan, and Australia. The tourism department has been trying to maximize its ongoing “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” campaign even in London where the Olympic Games are being held. Tourists watching the Olympics also get to see the Philippine tourism campaign posters that adorn double-decker buses in London. President Aquino, in his State of the Nation Address in July, said he was confident the country would achieve its 4.6 million tourist arrivals this year.
