Jamaican Usain Bolt on Sunday, August 5, defended his 100-meter dash title in an Olympic record time of 9.63 seconds. 25-year-old Bolt is the first sprinter since US Olympic legend Carl Lewis to defend an Olympic 100-meter title. Also holder of the world record, Bolt finished ahead of countryman Yohan Blake and American Justin Gatlin. Overcoming an unimpressive start, the Jamaican said after the race, “My start wasn’t too good but my coach always said to me I’m not a good starter, it’s not worth worrying about.” The 100-meter race saw 7 of the 8 finalists running under 10 seconds, making it the fastest Olympic 100-meter final ever.
