Customs bureau seizes P195M in illegal drugs
The Bureau of Customs vows 'to erase the impression that the Philippines remains an international transit point of illegal drugs in Asia'

MANILA, Philippines – The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has seized up to P195 million ($4.33 million) in illegal drugs as of June in the face of rampant smuggling, the BOC said.

In a report, the BOC said it apprehended offenders at least 10 times in the first half of 2015. The bureau caught most of them at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City.

The bureau said it seized  “57.2 grams of cocaine, 11.7 grams of marijuana, 680 pieces of Midazolam, 1,360 pieces of Ecstacy, and 1.4 grams of phendimetrazine” from January to June.

On January 5, it confiscated the biggest amount of illegal drugs this year – 38.65 kilograms of shabu. The offenders hid these in 4 water pumps brought to Manila from Hong Kong.

For these accomplishments, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency praised the Customs Enforcement Group.

Customs Deputy Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno said the enforcement group vows to eradicate the “illicit activities of drug syndicates.”

“We will guard our ports and implement the laws strictly to erase the impression that the Philippines remains an international transit point of illegal drugs in Asia,” Nepomuceno added. – Rappler.com
