The unified automated fare collection system (AFCS) for Metro Manila’s elevated trains will be pilot-tested at the Light Rail Transit 2 (LRT2) beginning Monday, July 20.
The limited public trial marks another important phase of the end-to-end testing of the new payment system, AF Payments – the provider of the service – said. The new AFCS will run simultaneously with the old system, which uses the magnetic stripe tickets until rollout is completed in all LRT2 stations.
LRT2 becomes the first Philippine commuter train to implement the smart card technology for its ticketing system.
