It’s college-hunting season once again for high school seniors, and the University of the Philippines (UP), the country’s premier state university, is on top of nearly everyone’s list. For the first time, applicants can lodge their applications online for the UP College Admission Test (UPCAT), which will expedite applications and reduce admissions costs.

However, who are qualified to take the exam, especially with the ongoing transition to the K to 12 curriculum? Many students and their parents are confused on whether a 4th Year/Grade 10 student can now apply for the UPCAT – the university clarifies that it will only be those coming from “high schools with accelerated programs,” or those so-called early implementors of the new curriculum.
