
A secret film, apparently from the personal family archives of Queen Elizabeth II, has been uncovered by the British tabloid The Sun – and the images has stirred controversy in the kingdom. The film shows then Prince Edward, the uncle of the current monarch Elizabeth II, teaching the then-young princess and her sister Margaret the Nazi salute at around 1933 or 1934, or years before the Second World War.
A debate is now raging on whether The Sun was right to publish the photographs. The tabloid has defended the move, saying it is a “matter of national historical significance to explore what was going on in the ’30s,” ahead of the war. However, Buckingham Palace says the film was exploited.
