Aquino OKs incentives for government workers

MANILA, Philippines – President Benigno Aquino III recently approved a P30.65-billion ($690.26 million)* appropriation for the grant of the 2015 Productivity Enhancement Incentive (PEI) for employees in government, including those from state universities and colleges (SUCs).

In a radio interview with dzRB on Saturday, May 16, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said Aquino has signed Executive Order (EO) 181 which details the grant of the PEI to agencies that have exceeded financial and operational performance targets.

The incentive will hopefully motivate employees toward higher productivity.

"Good news 'yan [para] sa mga kasamahan natin naman sa pamahalaan...Nakalagay po ito sa General Appropriations Act po natin ng 2015 at naka-identify na po 'yung fund source po rito," Valte said.

(That's good news for our fellow government workers...This is included in the 2015 General Appropriations Act, and we have already identified a fund source.)

For fiscal year 2015, the PEI is equivalent to either P5,000 ($112.61) or one month of basic salary as of May 31, 2015. The incentive "shall be given no earlier than June 1," according to Valte.

PEI is a component of the government’s Performance-Based Incentive System that the government has adopted since Aquino signed EO 80 in 2012.

The incentive is for qualified personnel of the following agencies:

But Valte said these agencies must comply with the following requirements, among others:
