Makati Police on Friday, September 18, rounded up 34 people for not observing physical distancing at a bar.

Of the 34 people, 13 were foreigners and 5 were reportedly German diplomats.

Police raided the Kartel Rooftop Bar in popular Makati area Poblacion after getting a tip from the Mayor’s Office that rules were not being complied with.

Metro Manila is currently under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) and under Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) rules, restaurants in areas under GCQ may operate its dine-in facilities following health protocols.

Bars that serve mainly alcoholic drinks cannot operate, but the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) allowed restaurants to serve limited amounts of alcohol.

Police have a video of the partygoers supposedly not oberserving physical distancing.

They were brought to the Makati Police Station, and were issued citation tickets. They were freed right after.

Police said the Germans refused the tickets, invoking diplomatic immunity, but cops insisted to issue the citation tickets. –
