1 dead, 19 rescued as boat capsizes off Camarines Sur

LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines (UPDATED) – One person died while 19 people were rescued after a boat capsized in the waters of Camarines Sur on Wednesday night, February 24.

Authorities said they recovered the body of boat passenger Reynante Calayo at 12:20 am on Thursday, February 25, along the shore of Barangay Anid.

Artemio Sabalbero, the boat operator, is the only one still missing among the 21 passengers of the motorized boat that capsized at 7 pm Wednesday while passing through the waters of Anid, Senior Inspector Maria Luisa Calubaquib, police regional spokesperson, said on Thursday.

The rescued passengers are the following:

Authorities are conducting search and rescue operations for Sabalbero, according to Police Chief Inspector Jerome Regachuelo, Sipocot police chief.

The rescued victims were brought to the municipal health office of Sipocot for medical examination before being sent home. – Rappler.com
