The Philippine Coast Guard rescued 15 crewmen of a ship which sank near Palawan, Wednesday afternoon, November 25, but reported that two officers on board were still missing.

The PCG said those still missing as of Thursday afternoon, November 26, were the master and the chief engineer of the sunken LCT Lady Athena.

Search and rescue (SAR) were called off Thursday “due to unfavorable weather conditions” said the PCG. It would resume the SAR mission Friday, November 27.

A report by the PCG said it rescued around 3:30 pm Wednesday the crew of the LCT Lady Athena which sunk off Cambari Island in Araceli, Palawan after it was battered by strong winds and big waves in the area.

The rescued crew told the authorities that the Lady Athena absorbed several hits in the rough seas before capsizing and eventually sinking.

“As of today, 26 November 2020, the PCG temporarily suspended the SAR operations due to heavy weather conditions. It will be continued tomorrow, 27 November 2020, to look for the two missing crew members — the master and the chief engineer,” said the PCG incident report.

Those rescued were assisted by the PCG search and rescue team aboard MV Titan. The crew of the Lady Athena were brought to Coast Guard Sub-Station in Araceli, Palawan. – Rappler.com
