At least 50 police in the towns of Calasiao and Tayug in Pangasinan tested positive for COVID-19.
The Calasiao police station, upon order of Mayor Joseph Arman Bauzon, remains closed for further disinfection after 30 of its personnel were infected. These included police chief Lieutenant Colonel Ferdinand de Asis, 28 other police and training personnel, and one person under custody.
De Asis said results were released on March 31, 6 days after they were tested. He said all of them were asymptomatic and were currently in a temporary treatment and monitoring facility.
Despite this, De Asis said there would still be strict monitoring during the Holy Week, as additional forces will be deployed.
Meanwhile in Tayug, 23 police, all members of the Provincial Mobile Force Company, tested positive for COVID-19. Eighteen of them were asymptomatic, while 5 others have mild symptoms such as cough, colds, and sore throat.
Tayug Mayor Carlo Trece Mapili said the cops’ results came out on March 30, 4 days after they were tested by the provincial health office on March 26.
As of March 25, 2021, the Philippine National Police Health Service reported that the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the organization is 13,828, with 1,750 active cases. – Rappler.com
