The Department of Health (DOH) reported 2,673 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, October 17, bringing the total count to 354,338.
The daily count was lower than the 3,139 cases recorded Friday, October 16, but still higher than the cases recorded each day from October 11 to October 15.

In its latest report published on Monday, October 12, the Octa Research Group saw an "uptick" of COVID-19 cases in some provincial hotspots. This led the group to urge the government to “carefully study” the lifting of restrictions for economic stimulation.
The DOH also reported 73 new deaths and 539 recoveries. This brought the death toll to 6,603 and total recoveries to 295,312.
Active cases, or the net of total COVID-19 cases and recoveries, stood at 52,423.
