MANILA, Philippines – The Court of Tax Appeals on Wednesday, April 29, ordered the arrest of Jeane Napoles, daughter of alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles, for failing to show up for her arraignment, reports said.
Jeane is facing a P17.88-million (about $404,072) tax evasion case. (READ:Napoles daughter owns P80-M LA property)
The younger Napoles was placed under the spotlight after photos of her extravagant lifestyle went viral online.
Her mother, Janet, is accused of conniving with lawmakers to steal millions worth of public funds through fake non-governmental organizations under the so-called pork barrel scam.
A Makati court earlier sentenced Janet to life imprisonment after being found guilty of detaining her former employee, Benhur Luy, who later became state witness against her syndicate.
Janet and her husband, Jaime, are also facing tax evasion charges for their failure to properly declare their income taxes.
Jeane had been based overseas when news about the pork barrel scam broke but the Bureau of Immigration in March confirmed that she was back in the country. She was sighted at a party in Manila as early as October 2014. – Rappler.com
