#ThewRap: Things you need to know, May 14, 2018

Hello!

After initial efforts to postpone them, it's 'all systems go' for the 2018 barangay, SK elections.

To enable people to fully exercise their right to suffrage, Malacañang has declared the day as a non-working holiday

The 2018 barangay elections is the first in 5 years, while the simultaneous Sangguniang Kabataan elections is the first in 8 years as this exercise has been postponed for various reasons in the past

In preparation for the vote, thousands of police officers have been deployed, focusing on areas with a history of election-related violence and those with intense political rivalries. Out of more than 42,000 barangays nationwide, 7,915 have been labeled by the government as election hot spots as of May 6.

Before you exercise your right, however, please take time to read up on things we entrust the barangay officials we elect

You may also want to read and share the Filipino translation of this reminder: Pera’t kapangyarihan: 5 bagay na ipinagkakatiwala natin sa mga halal sa barangay.

We hope you exercise your right to vote!
