The Department of Tourism says City Garden Grand Hotel is classified as a suitable quarantine facility and cannot be used for leisure purposes

The Department of Tourism (DOT) on Tuesday, January 5, issued a show cause order against the City Garden Grand Hotel in Makati City, where the body of flight attendant Christine Dacera was found.

DOT Metro Manila Regional Director Woodrow Maquiling Jr asked the hotel to explain why its rooms are being used for leisure purposes, when it is supposed to be a COVID-19 quarantine facility.

“It has come to the attention of the DOT that the demise of a Philippine Airlines attendant allegedly occurred during a party held in your establishment on December 31, 2020. We understand based on reports that several individuals have checked in or spent the evening in one of your rooms on said date,” Maquiling said in the order.

According to the regional director, hotels being used as quarantine facilities “may not provide accommodation for leisure purposes” under DOT Administrative Order (AO) 2020-002-C.

Maquiling added, citing DOT AO 2020-006-C, that “hotels accommodating guests for staycation purposes must not be concurrently used as a quarantine or isolation facility.”

City Garden Grand Hotel is listed under the Bureau of Quarantine’s list of suitable quarantine facilities as of December 21, 2020.

The hotel was given 3 days from receipt of the order to explain in writing why its DOT accreditation should not be suspended or revoked.

Dacera’s body was found in her hotel room on New Year’s Day. She was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

The police arrested 3 suspects, but 9 other suspects are still at-large. – Rappler.com
