Duterte condemns 'terrorist act' in France

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines shares the “grief of France in the rampage, multiple murders of its citizens,” President Rodrigo Duterte said in a statement released Saturday, July 16.

“We condemn the brutal and violent, the way that people were run over by a truck, a terrorist act. We join the rest of the world in mourning and express our solidarity with France against terrorists, against what is fundamentally evil,” Duterte said.

He added that the Philippines joins France in its fight against terrorism.

On Friday, July 15, a Tunisian-born man zigzagged a truck through a crowd celebrating Bastille Day in Nice, France, killing at least 84 and injuring dozens of children. French President Francois Hollande called the incident a "terrorist" attack.

Hollande declared 3 days of mourning after the attack, as shellshocked France found itself mourning its dead again after attacks on Charlie Hebdo magazine in January 2015 and the November 2015 massacre in Pariswith reports from Agence France-Presse/Rappler.com
