LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines (UPDATED) – A former Camarines Sur police chief running for city councillor here was shot dead by unidentified men as he campaigned in a remote village on Wednesday afternoon, April 10.
Retired Police Colonel Ramiro Bausa, a candidate for Legapzi City councilor, was killed in Barangay Cagbacong in this city, said Police Major Maria Luisa Calubaquib, spokesperson of the Bicol regional police command.
Bausa was running as an independent candidate.
Bausa suffered the same fate as his late brother, retired Police Lieutenant Colonel Enrique Bausa, who was also killed while he campaigned for Daraga town councilor in the 2007 elections.
Enrique Bausa, a multi-awarded police officer and former chief of police of Daraga town in Albay, was killed by members of the New People’s Army (NPA) for supposedly refusing to pay for a permit to campaign fee. – Rappler.com
