The ‘long night:’ Filipinos online react to initial 2019 election results
What have netizens been saying about the unofficial election results so far?

MANILA, Philippines – The polls are closed, votes are being counted, the unofficial results are coming in, and so are the initial reactions of netizens so far.

The partial results of 2019’s senatorial elections are currently being transmitted, and netizens online are reacting as quickly (or slowly) as the counts come – reactions of wit, anger, humor, and memes, cloaked in disdain.

The Twitter world’s reactions are stemming from the pre-election surveys coming into fruition, as majority of the administration’s senatorial bets dominated the first wave of the partial and unofficial vote results.

Hugpong ng Pagbabago’s Cythia Villar claimed the top spot while PDP-Laban’s Bong Go and Bato Dela Rosa – both allies of President Rodrigo Duterte – landed in the top 5. (READ: Cynthia Villar, Grace Poe top elections in first transmission)

So far, none of Otso Diretso’s members have entered the Magic 12 list, but as of now, only .4% of the precincts have been reported, as the transmission of Comelec’s transparency server is delayed, with the release of results slower than usual. That hasn’t stopped netizens from expressing their disappointment over the night’s initial results – but of course, in meme form.

Some sought refuge in humor, Avengers, and Games of Thrones references.

Others didn’t shy away from being direct.

Even director Kip Oebanda lightly pleaded for the liquor ban to be lifted, for his own sake.
