PANGASINAN, Philippines – The provincial board of canvassers proclaimed on Wednesday morning, May 15, re-electionist Gov Amado Espino Jr as the winner in the heated Pangasinan gubernatorial race.

Espino of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) won his third term as governor of the vote-rich province with 809,165 votes. His Liberal Party rival, Alaminos City Mayor Hernani Braganza only got 280,967. Braganza lost in his own city.

The board has canvassed at 71% of the total votes cast in the province.

Although NPC is an administration ally in the senatorial slate, the ruling LP fielded Braganza to challenge the incumbent governor. – Rappler.com
