Aquino appointee quits PCSO to support Grace Poe

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines – An ally of President Benigno Aquino III quit as director of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) early this week, saying he found it improper to stay since he is not supporting the administration's presidential bet, Manuel Roxas II.

"I should do a proper thing. I need to resign. I respect so much the authority of the person who appointed me," former An Waray Representative Florencio "Bem" Noel told Rappler here, his home city, on Friday, September 18.

Noel, who was appointed by the President to PCSO in December 2014, is supporting the presidential bid of Senator Grace Poe and her running mate Senator Francis Escudero.

He resigned from the PCSO board last Tuesday, September 15, and then attended the following day Poe's declaration event at the University of the Philippines. On Thursday, Noel was also present in Club Filipino when Escudero declared his vice presidential bid.

Noel, a native of Tacloban City and a former An Waray Partylist Representative was appointed by President Benigno C. Aquino 111 as PCSO board member last December 2014, openly announcing his support to the presidential bid of Senator Grace Poe.

"I believe in Grace, I will never hide that. I believe in what she stands for, it iya pag treat hit regional advocacy, nakabati na ako hit iya plano, very firm and well defined it iya gusto buhaton. I’ll be 101% with Grace Poe," said Noel. (I believe in her regional advocacy. Her plans are firm and well-defined.)

In the 2010 presidential elections, Noel supported both Aquino for president, but for vice president, he supported Jejomar Binay instead of Roxas, who was Aquino's running mate.

Noel ran for Tacloban mayor in 2013 but lost to Alfred Romualdez. He said he has no plans yet for 2016. – Rappler.com
