Presidential aspirant Bongbong Marcos said if ally Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte runs for president, he would still stick to his plan on running for the highest post in the land.

“I know what my plan is. We will continue my plan. That is what we are doing,” Marcos said on Thursday, November 11, to reporters who swarmed to Cavite for the wedding of Gianna Revilla which turned into the hottest political affair of the week.

Sara Duterte was there too, and paired up with Marcos as principal wedding sponsor of the daughter of Senator Bong Revilla. Earlier on Thursday, the eldest daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte flew to the exclusive island of Balesin in Quezon via a private jet to attend the birthday of Speaker Lord Allan Velasco.

When reporters asked Marcos what he would do if Sara runs for president, he said: “Then she will run. What can I say.”

“I entered this race with thoughts that I should run for president. That’s what I’m doing,” he added.

All in one afternoon, Sara managed to quit her party Hugpong ng Pagbabago through a handwritten note, then take her oath as member of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s Lakas-CMD party wearing the same gown she wore at the wedding, with Bong Revilla beside her.

Lakas-CMD had fielded candidates for both president and vice president, fueling speculations that Sara would be the substitute before the deadline on November 15. The party had earlier eyed Revilla as its presidential candidate.

Marcos said he and Sara have not talked since the mayor withdrew her candidacy for reelection in Davao City, but that “we might” resume discussions again, seeing that they were both at the wedding.

“This is Philippine politics. Everything is possible. Even up to the last absolute minute,” Marcos said.

He added: “Examine my situation. I have nowhere else to go. I cannot go anywhere. I will not change parties. I entered this race not to play any of these substitution or play with the rules.”

Last weekend, in Leyte, Marcos said he did not think he and Sara would face off for the presidency, since Sara had already said she would not run for president.

As the deadline for the substitution of candidates draws nearer, Sara and her family’s political maneuverings have unfolded each day like an episode in a melodrama.

Will it be Marcos-Sara, Sara-Marcos, or Sara vs Marcos?

“It’s not a surprise that there will be speculations. It’s nothing new. It’s been something that we candidates have been living with for quite a while so we keep doing what we do,” said Marcos, who is running under Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP).

Lakas-CMD president Martin Romualdez said he had invited his cousin Marcos to join their party but the invite was met with just a smile. Romualdez said “it’s a possibility” that Lakas and PFP will just form an alliance if Marcos and Sara do team up. – Rappler.com
