Cotabato City Mayor Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi is running for reelection.
She filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) before the Commission on Elections in Cotabato on Saturday, October 2.
A lawyer by profession, Guiani-Sayadi is seeking a second term as chief executive of the city which voted favorably to be part of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
Guiani-Sayadi has been vocal against the city’s inclusion in the Bangsamoro region.
She and her vice mayor, Graham Dumama, along with a compete slate for councilors under the One Kutawato party submitted their COCs together.
Guiani-Sayadi used to be the city vice mayor, and took over the helm of the city government when her brother Japal Guiani Jr. died of a stroke in 2016. – Rappler.com
