Veteran lawmaker Kiko Pangilinan did not plan on running for vice president in the high-stakes 2022 elections.
He had been spending the past months preparing for his reelection in the Senate, where he is currently among the only four senators from the embattled opposition under President Rodrigo Duterte.
But when Vice President Leni Robredo was left with no choice but to turn to Pangilinan for a running mate after unity talks with other candidates fell through, the Liberal Party (LP) president knew he had a responsibility to fulfill.
Pangilinan is running under the LP banner, but Robredo is seeking the presidency as an independent aspirant.
How big of a sacrifice really was Pangilinan’s surprise vice presidential bid? How did his family react to his decision? And how will he run his campaign alongside Robredo to make sure they bring their message down to the masses?
Rappler’s political reporter Mara Cepeda sits down with Pangilinan on Monday, October 11, at 11 am. Watch the interview live on Rappler. – Rappler.com
