Rappler Talk: Martin Romualdez on Lakas-CMD and 2022
With a divided ruling party, Lakas-CMD gets the opportunity to play a bigger role in 2022. Watch the interview live on Rappler on Monday at 4 pm.

Alliances are being formed left and right ahead of the 2022 Philippine elections.

One of the leading parties in these coalitions is Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats, which holds the distinction of being the first to formally reach out to Hugpong ng Pagbabago, the regional party of leading 2022 potential presidential bet Sara Duterte.

The party is not new to political maneuvers. In its 30-year history, it has produced two presidents and currently has 48 members and allies in the House of Representatives – 26 district representatives who are members of the party and 22 party-list representatives who have aligned themselves with them.

Amid a divided ruling party, Lakas has slowly but steadily enjoyed trickles of politicians coming into their fold. How does it position itself for 2022?

Rappler sits down with Lakas-CMD party president and House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez, who currently serves as the 1st District representative of Leyte.

He has also been teased by President Duterte to run for vice president before Duterte himself floated prospects of running for the position himself.

Tune in to the interview live on Monday, July 19. – Rappler.com
