Actor Jason Abalos filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) on Friday, October 1, for provincial board member of the 2nd District of Nueva Ecija.

In a social media post, Abalos said he aims to continue what his father, incumbent Board Member Popoy Abalos, has contributed to the province.

He will be running under Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan.

In 2016, Abalos ran for municipal councilor in Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija, but lost.

Abalos first rose to fame in 2005, as a contestant on the teen edition of ABS-CBN’s talent search Star Circle Quest.

His early film work includes a role in the 2006 teen flick First Day High and a Gawad Urian Award-winning turn in Jade Castro’s 2008 film Endo, where he plays a struggling contractual worker who falls in love with a spirited young woman.

He went on to star in music film Rakenrol and the war drama Death March, which screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013. He also appeared in television shows such as Maria Mercedes, FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, Inday Will Always Love You, and Bihag.

He transferred to GMA Network in 2017, after over a decade with ABS-CBN’s Star Magic. He has a role in the upcoming GMA show Las Hermanas, which is set to premiere in 2021.

Abalos also has a degree in electrical engineering from the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology. – Paul Nicholas Soriano/Rappler.com
