LIST: Local bets who filed COCs on Day 5, October 17

MANILA, Philippines – Local bets rushed to the offices of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) nationwide on Wednesday, October 17, the last day of filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) for the May 2019 elections. 

Among them was presidential son Sebastian "Baste" Duterte, who will run for vice mayor in Davao City alongside his sister, reelectionist Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio, and brother Paolo Duterte, who is running for 1st district congressman. (READ: Duterte's 3 eldest children running in 2019)

Here is a wrap of other notable COC filers on Wednesday, as reported by Rappler and other news organizations. 


In Ilocos Norte, a "David versus Goliath" battle brewed. Former barangay captain Jesus Arimbuyotan filed his COC for governor to challenge a formidable opponent: outgoing 2nd district congresswoman Imelda Marcos, who also filed on Wednesday.

A similar thread also emerged in neighboring Ilocos Sur, where Zuriel and Annika Zaragoza will run against Ryan Luis and Jerry Singson (who filed on Tuesday) for the province's two top posts.

Ex-governor and incumbent Narvacan councilor Luis "Chavit" Singson will be running for mayor.  Pablito Sanidad will be his vice mayor, a throwback to their 1971 provincial polls team-up, this time with an aim to topple the Zaragozas in Narvacan.

Meanwhile, in Isabela, Governor Faustino Dy III seeks to become vice governor, with 1st District Representative Rodolfo Albano III looking to take Dy's place at the helm of provincial hall. Dy's son Inno filed his COC for congressman of the newly-created 6th District.

Metro Manila

In Makati City, the "Binay vs Binay" sibling rivalry for mayor is now official: reelectionist Mayor Abigail Binay filed her candidacy on Wednesday, accompanied by his father, former vice president Jejomar Binay. Her brother Junjun filed his mayoralty bid on Tuesday.

The Binay patriarch separately filed his COC for congressman of Makati's 1st district.

At the nation's capital, Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada made his reelection bid official. His running mate is former 5th district congressman Amado Bagatsing, reported News5. Bagatsing ran against Estrada in the 2016 polls.

Another bet who filed a COC for mayor is another Estrada foe, Alfredo Lim, reported DWIZ. Estrada and Lim are being challenged by their former vice mayor, Isko Moreno, who filed on Friday.

In San Juan City, former vice mayor Francis Zamora tries again to win the mayoralty seat. He filed his candidacy alongside his father Ronaldo Zamora, who is seeking reelection as congressman.

The Radazas of Lapu-Lapu City will switch positions in 2019, reported SunStar Cebu: former congressman Arturo Radaza for mayor, Councilor Harry Radaza for vice mayor, and Mayor Paz Radaza for congresswoman.

Zamboanga City 1st district congressman Celso Lobregat filed his candidacy for mayor. He will challenge reelectionist Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco Salazar, who also filed her COC on Wednesday.

In Cagayan de Oro City, Mayor Oscar Moreno is looking to win another term. He will be challenged by Agriculture Undersecretary Pompee La Viña.

Former mayor Vicente Emano also filed a COC for vice mayor. La Viña and Emano will be running under the PaDayon Pilipino party.

Former 2nd district congressman Rufus Rodriguez seeks to return to Congress in 2019, while 1st District Representative Rolando Uy is gunning for reelection.

In Zamboanga Sibugay, Vice Governor Eldwin Alibutdan and 2nd District Representative Dulce Ann Hofer are both running for reelection. 

Ex-vice governor Rey Andre Olegario is also eyeing a comeback to his old seat.
