Individuals aiming for elective positions are expected to conduct high-profile events to launch their candidacies. Political parties, meanwhile, will gather in national conventions and formally announce their nominees.

Lacson-Sotto

  • Sotto said: 
    • They are the tandem with KKK, which means katapangan, kakayahan, katapatan (courage, competence, honesty).
    • The Philippines is facing several problems – including corruption, bad pandemic response, among others – and it is the poor that is burdened.
    • The public cannot anymore turn a blind eye to what is happening, and it is time to act.
    • The country needs a leader that values morality.
  • Lacson:
    • Took a swipe at President Duterte for the latter’s bad governance, defeatist stance on the West Philippine Sea, and the failed war on drugs, among others.
    • Said that right governance should be leadership by example: “No leader can succeed if he cannot practice what he preaches.”
    • Said that they are working on a “road map” for the country’s COVID-19 recovery.
  • Lacson’s high-profile endorsers include businesswoman Robina Gokongwei-Pei, calling the senator her “white knight” after rescuing her from kidnappers in 1981.

    • Rehashed his usual tirades against about illegal drugs, threats to kill those who would destroy the country, and guarantees to assume full responsibility for police who kill in line of duty. 
    • Said he is running for vice president for the love of country and to ensure continuity.
    • Said the public should learn to live with the coronavirus since the end is not yet in sight. 
  • Go reitered his decision not to run after the event.

  • Pacquiao said:
    • He can connect to the masses because he experienced poverty.
    • He never backed off from a fight: “Sa laban ng prinsipyo, karangalan ng bayan ay tumayo ako, nanindigan, at nakikipaglaban.”
    • Change is really needed in the Philippines.
    • It is time to clean up the government and end corruption: “Sawa na kami sa inyong mga pangako, sa inyong mga dahilan.”
  • Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, son of PDP-Laban founder Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel Jr., said they would “formally fight back against the hijackers.”
