No to ‘palakasan’: Robredo vows gov’t appointments to be based on expertise, clean track record

Vice President Leni Robredo said if she becomes the next president, she would make sure that government appointments are based on merits, not political favors.

Asked during the CBCP forum on Friday, March 25, how she plans to address the “palakasan” system in the Philippines, Robredo said that the key here is ensuring government appointees are free from corruption and are actually qualified for the posts.

“Dapat ‘yung mga tao, hindi political yung consideration. Dapat experts sa field nila at walang record of corruption,” said Robredo.

(The appointees should be chosen not because of political considerations. They should be experts in their field and should have no record of corruption.)

The lone female presidential candidate also reiterated that the first executive order she would sign as president is a full disclosure policy, which would require all government offices to be transparent with their transactions and projects.
