Robredo No. 1 in VP race – TV5’s Bilang Pilipino survey

MANILA, Philippines – Administration candidate Leni Robredo soared to number one among vice presidential candidates in TV5’s Bilang Pilipino Mobile Survey conducted by Social Weather Stations (SWS) on April 14.

The survey results were first broadcast by TV5 and reported by Interaksyon on Saturday, April 16.

Robredo got a national score of 30%, a 5-percentage point jump over her score in the March 31 Bilang Pilipino SWS Mobile Survey.

Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr was second with 27%, up by 1-percentage point; while Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero was third with 25%, a 6-percentage point drop from his previous.

The other candidates’ scores were unchanged: Senators Alan Peter Cayetano (13%), Antonio Trillanes IV (3%), and Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan II (1%).

The survey results also showed that 2% of voters  were still undecided on their vice presidential candidate, and that 61% would not change their mind on their vice presidential candidate.

The survey was conducted a few days after the vice presidential debate sponsored by the Commission on Elections on April 10. Based on a Rappler poll among netizens, Robredo won that debate. (READ: The VP debates in sentiments)

Geographical areas

Among geographical locations, Marcos was the favored candidate in Metro Manila with 38%, followed by Escudero (23%),  Robredo (21%), Cayetano (14%), Trillanes (1%), and Honasan (1%).

In Balance Luzon, Robredo (31%), Escudero (30%), and Marcos (29%) were in the lead, followed by Cayetano (7%), Honasan (2%), and Trillanes (1%).

Robredo led candidates in the Visayas, with 36%, followed by  Escudero (24%), Marcos (18%), Cayetano (15%), Trillanes (4%), and Honasan (1%).

In Mindanao, Robredo (27%), Marcos (25%), and Cayetano (21%) were in the lead, followed by Escudero (16%), Trillanes (8%) and Honasan.

Among the well-off Class ABC, Marcos led other candidates with 36% but Robredo was not far behind with 32%.

In Class D, Robredo got a score of 29%, Marcos with 27%, and Escudero  with 26%.

Robredo was the favored candidate among the poorest Class E with 33%, followed by Escudero with 23%.

In the April 14 survey, 648 or 54% of the 1,200 “panel members”  responded: 183 in Metro Manila, 149 in Balance Luzon, 169 in Visayas and 147 in Mindanao. This gives sampling error margins of ±4% for national percentages, ±7% in Metro Manila, and ±8% in Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The Bilang Pilipino SWS Mobile Survey uses a nationally representative sample of 1,200 validated voters – 300 each in Metro Manila, Balance of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

These voters were invited, and agreed, to be members of a panel of respondents to receive and reply to a few survey questions each day using mobile phones provided to them for free by Starmobile.
