HIGHLIGHTS: Proclamation of party-list groups – 2022 PH elections

The Commission on Elections will not proclaim United Senior Citizen on Thursday, even though it garnered enough votes to clinch one seat in the 19th Congress.

Commissioner George Garcia told reporters on Thursday, May 26, that United Senior Citizen’s accreditation bid was denied at the division level, while its motion for reconsideration filed with the seven-member en banc is pending.

Party-list group Senior Citizens, which will also be proclaimed later, disclosed on Wednesday that it was the group that filed a petition seeking to bar United Senior Citizen from the 2022 elections. 

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) named Kabataan and Gabriela as among the party-list groups that will be proclaimed on Thursday afternoon, in wake of fears they will be skipped during the event.

This is after Comelec Commissioner George Garcia initially said on Wednesday, May 25, that the poll body will refrain from proclaiming party-list groups with pending cases. He clarified later that day that his statement was not yet adopted by the en banc.

The National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) is seeking to nullify the accreditation of Kabataan and Gabriela, pening before the Comelec.

A total of 55 party-list groups will receive their certificates of proclamation at 4 pm on Thursday, May 26.

Topping the party-list race for the second election in a row is ACT-CIS, which is expected to be the only group to get three seats this election season.
