WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

In a historical move, labor leader and Partido Lakas ng Masa presidential bet Leody de Guzman will vie for the presidency against bigger names in Philippine politics. De Guzman, a labor leader and organizer for over three decades, will be having Laban ng Masa chairperson Walden Bello as his running mate.

The tandem had built their platforms on economic, political, and social development reforms. As they’ve said in previous statements, they are out to fight against the so-called “Marcos-Duterte Axis of Evil.”

Oppressed workers inspire Leody de Guzman to continue the fight

Sofia Guanzon

After unexpected delays to Presidential candidate Leody De Guzman’s proclamation rally today, February 8, the Partido Lakas ng Masa presidential bet ends the event held at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani with a message to his fellow workers: they are his inspiration for entering the race.

De Guzman, a veteran labor leader who previously lost when he ran in the 2019 senatorial elections, remains determined to compete against “bigger” candidates till the elections on May 9.

(They, the oppressed workers, are my inspiration. They are the reason why I keep fighting. Because from the very beginning, I’ve felt the workers’ plight… how they’ve been oppressed by billionaires and the capitalists of this country. That is clear.”

Change in political color won’t stop return of dictatorship – Bello

Bonz Magsambol

Vice presidential candidate and former Akbayan congressman Walden Bello took a swipe at other candidates, saying that change in political colors will not stop the return of dictatorship in the country.

Bello, a vocal critic of the Marcoses, said that changing political colors is a “dead end” and won’t do any good.

(The biggest challenge of this election is the possible return of the Marcoses and Dutertes in power. The best way to stop a desperate country from being lured by them to return to the dark chapter of dictatorship is to create a better future for Filipinos.)
