'Suntukan sa UST,' Chiz for Waze, and other funny VP debate posts

MANILA, Philippines – The 6 candidates vying for the country's second highest post did not mince words as they went head-to-head in a debate at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) on Sunday, April 10.

Just as intense – the reactions of people on social media.

Rappler's social media team compiled some of the funniest tweets that caught our attention during and after the heated debate. Read on!

'Fistfight in UST'

Remember the 'Suntukan sa Ace Hardware' event that triggered an online trend? There have been spin-offs like 'Batuhan ng Siomai sa Morayta,' 'Suntukan sa Dapitan,' and now – an imaginary fistfight between senators Alan Peter Cayetano and Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr outside UST. They won't actually come to blows (we hope!). (READ: Cayetano hits Marcos: Your family stole $10 billion)

Cayetano-Duterte-Marcos love triangle

Tensions between Cayetano and Marcos weren't just about the Marcoses' ill-gotten wealth. After all, Marcos had asked to be Rodrigo Duterte's running matebut the Davao City mayor's sweet yes went to Cayetano. Talk about a love triangle to end all love triangles.

Akin si Duterte: A love story. Starring Duterte, Bongbong and Allan. #PiliPinasDebate2016 — Cleve V. You can also look at it in the context of a family feud.

Cayetano vs Marcos:"Di ka love ng tatay mo! Ako daw papamanahan niya!""Hindi! Hindi! No! Waaaah!" #PiliPinasDebates2016 — Editors of Manila (@edsMNL) April 10, 2016

Honasan was (actually) there

Senator Gregorio "Gringo" Honasan II wasn't exactly a standout in the debate. Even on social media, he was barely felt

As one netizen put it:

Honasan's contribution so far in the debates: "Pinky? Can you hear me?" #PiliPinasDebate2016 — Jan Michael (@unvrslcnsprcy) April 10, 2016

Escudero's speaking style

What did stand out, though, was Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero's speaking style – described as too wordy and apparently rehearsed. It didn't take long for social media users to poke fun at the senator's manner of speaking.

Netizens also suggested an alternative career for the senator.

Payag ka, 1st world internet speed pero boses ng Waze navigator mo kay Chiz Escudero? ;-) — Marga (@margadeona) April 10, 2016 Tama nga kayo: yung boses ni Chiz puwede pang-Waze — Richard Bolisay (@richardbolisay) April 10, 2016 If Chiz loses this election, he should just go apply as the new voice of Siri or Waze. He'll make a fortune for sure! #PiliPinasDebate2016 — Pancho Maniquis (@CookingNgInaMo_) April 10, 2016 Another way to annoy your everyday traffic? Choose Chiz' Waze voice. #PiliPinasDebates2016 — avery (@averyryan28) April 10, 2016 Chiz Escudero for Waze voice recording! Or not? — Abbie Real Dimaano (@AbbieReal) April 10, 2016 I'd download Chiz's voice if it were on Waze tbh — Paul Bro (@jpptb) April 10, 2016

They also imagined how presidential candidate and senator Miriam Defensor Santiago, known for being feisty, would react to Escudero's speaking style. (Santiago, though, is a family friend of Escudero's wife Heart, and actually introduced the couple to each other.)

'The best woman'

Speaking of feisty, Camarines Sur 3rd District Representative Leni Robredo, the only woman in the vice presidential race, showed hints of fierceness in the showdown.

One post jokingly pointed out that Robredo took a discreet swipe at Marcos when the candidates were asked whether they engaged in corrupt activities.

I SAW WHAT YOU DID THERE CONG. LENI. Hahahahaha! pic.twitter.com/TmGQAXS8fT — Carlo Ople (@carloople) April 10, 2016

It was Robredo's sassy, witty closing statement that'll probably be one of the most remembered lines of the debate, too.

'Sa amin pong anim, may the best woman win.' - Leni Robredo BOOM. DROP MIC. ITS OVER. #LeniIsMyVP #LabanLeni — Jay Caluag (@caluswag) April 10, 2016 "MAY THE BEST WOMAN WIN." -Robredo YAAASSS KWEEEENNN SLAAAYYYYYYYYYY *drops mic* #PiliPinasDebates2016 — Ynang Reyna VINe-a (@VinQuilop) April 10, 2016

Was it all part of the plan?

Probably going through Robredo's mind the whole debate: CAN I SAY MY BEST WOMAN LINE NOW CAN I CAN I WHAT'S TAKING SO LONG CAN SAY IT NOW — Marguerite de Leon (@margie_deleon) April 10, 2016

Concrete plans?

Now, there was plenty of drama, but how about concrete plans?

"Give us concrete plans." #PiliPinasDebates2016 pic.twitter.com/0MLrTJRn9Q — Noelle (@IndividNoellism) April 10, 2016

As the dust settled after the debate, someone took the opportunity to remind everyone of a harsh fact.
