Manila Mayor Isko Moreno is set to officially announce on Wednesday, September 22, his presidential bid in the 2022 elections.
Moreno’s running mate is Willie Ong, a doctor and public health advocate who ran and lost in the 2019 senatorial election, but got the second highest number of overseas votes.
The event starts at 10:30 am (Manila time) on Wednesday.
Months before the launch, the Manila mayor was floated as a possible presidential bet – placing second behind Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte in a June 2021 Pulse Asia survey. While not explicitly identifying with the opposition, Moreno earlier told President Rodrigo Duterte that they would face off in October.
