Junior Chamber International Philippines expresses hope that the pandemic has become a wake-up call for the youth to choose better leaders

Junior Chamber International (JCI) Philippines launched the “#AmbagKo. Rehistro. Boto.” campaign on Friday, June 11, seeking to boost voter registration for the 2022 polls through informative content on its social media pages.

“Our website will be jam-packed with infographics, quick facts, videos, and blogs that are educational and useful,  providing information about registering and voting under a pandemic,” JCI’s former regatta local president Charie Ginete-Ilon said in a press briefing.

The leadership development organization, which has over 5,000 members nationwide, said it used the buzzword “ambag” to remind young voters that they can contribute to nation-building through participation in the electoral process.

JCI national president Jude Acidre expressed hope that the COVID-19 pandemic has become a “wake-up call for the young generation” in terms of choosing the right leaders.

“This pandemic is a real-life test for the kind of leaders that we want, leaders who will be quick to respond, proactive, leaders who would bring this nation to a higher level of resilience,” he said.

Among the group’s plans is a rewards system for netizens who actively take part in voter registration and voter education campaigns using the group’s hashtag #AmbagKo. However, details of the incentives program have yet to be finalized.

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said in May that there were around 2.6 million new registrants for the 2022 national elections, 1.4 million short of their expected four million new voters for next year’s polls.
