Marcos’ sister Irene to represent him at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral

MANILA, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will be represented by his sister Irene Marcos-Araneta at the state funeral of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth on Monday, September 19.

Marcos will be in New York for a working visit from Sunday, September 18, to Friday, September 23. He is due to speak before the United Nations General Assembly.

Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles announced in a statement on Sunday, September 18, that Araneta would be her brother’s special representative for the queen’s state funeral.

Araneta will be accompanied by her husband Gregorio Maria Araneta III.

They will also attend the queen’s lying-in-state on Sunday, Angeles said.

Elizabeth, Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, died at her home in Scotland on September 8. She was 96.

“She exemplified to the world a true monarch’s great dignity, commitment to duty, and devotion to all those in her realm,” President Marcos said following the queen’s death.

Hundreds of world leaders, foreign dignitaries, and royals will attend Monday’s funeral. – Rappler.com
