A Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3) train car caught fire near Guadalupe Station on Saturday, October 9.

In a statement, the MRT3 management said that the fire incident was reported at around 9:12 pm. Fire out was declared at 9:51 pm.

It said there were no casualties and major injuries reported as of posting, but initially said four people had minor injuries from jumping off the train.

Because of the fire, the MRT3 management had to cut train services from North Avenue Station only until Shaw Boulevard Station.

“The MRT3 management is currently exhausting all efforts to address the situation, putting into primary consideration the safety of the passengers,” it said.

On Sunday morning, October 10, MRT3 management said full operations had resumed, “with 17 trains running, from North Avenue station to Taft Avenue station (both bounds).”

On Sunday afternoon, the MRT3 management released a statement updating the tally of minor injuries to eight passengers – four males and four females. They received bruises on their arms and legs after jumping off the trains.

“We extend our deepest apologies to all our passengers who were affected by the incident, and that we are examining all possible angles to accurately determine its cause,” the MRT3 management said, adding it would take steps to prevent another incidence of this occurring. – Rappler.com
