WATCH: Freddie Aguilar sings at Duterte inauguration

MANILA, Philippines – Freddie Aguilar sang on the campaign trail for Rodrigo Duterte. On Thursday, June 30, the popular folk singer once more crooned "Para sa Tunay na Pagbabago," this time at his candidate's inauguration as the 16th president of the Philippines.

His wish, he told Rappler in a chance interview in Malacañang, is for President Duterte to be able to fulfill his campaign promises: "I wish him all the best, at sana, matupad niya lahat ng ipinangako niya sa mga kababayan natin nang hindi naman sumama ang loob ng mga sumuporta sa kanya."

(And hopefully he will be able to fulfill the promises he made to our countrymen, so those who supported him won't resent him.)

In his inaugural speech, Duterte said he could not move the country forward without the help of the public: "No leader, however strong, can succeed at anything of national importance or significance unless he has the support and cooperation of the people he is tasked to lead and sworn to serve."

Aguilar said this is the same message that a line in his song sends: "Hawak-kamay tayo (Let's do this hand in hand)."

"We have to help him, para mag-succeed 'yung presidente natin (for our president to succeed)," he said.

Here are the political lyrics that Aguilar set to his hit love song "Ipaglalaban Ko":

Ikaw ang pangulo
Para sa pagbabago,

Sawa na ang bayan ko
Sa magnanakaw na trapo.

Madilim na kahapon,
Ikaw ang mag-aahon.

Sa piling mo, Digong,
mawawala ang korupsyon.

Tayo na Pilipinas,
Tayo na at magbago;

Hawak kamay tayo
para sa pag-asenso.

Ikaw at ako,
tayong lahat kay Rodrigo
Duterte, para sa tunay na pagbabago.

Masdan mo ang paligid:
Talamak mga krimen,

Rape, droga, at mga nakawan.
Dapat nang mapigilan.

Tayo na Pilipinas,
Tayo na at magbago;

Hawak-kamay tayo
Para sa pag-asenso.

Ikaw at ako,
tayong lahat kay Rodrigo

Duterte, para sa tunay na pagbabago

Ikaw at ako,
Tayong lahat kay Rodrigo

Duterte, para sa tunay na pagbabago.
