German trafficker in Lapu-Lapu City arrested

CEBU CITY, Philippines – Police arrested a foreign online sex trafficker in Lapu-Lapu City on Wednesday, July 10.

Operatives from the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Women and Children Protection Center found child porngraphy and other paraphernalia at the suspect's home in Barangay Basak.

According to a police report, his two-year-old son was among the pornographic images found in the evidence gathered by police. The child was taken into custody by the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

“Today's arrest of a German national shows the global nature of the crime of online sexual exploitation of children,” said Col. Romeo Perigo, chief of WCPC-VFU.

“We are fully committed to arresting not only the local online traffickers, but also foreigners residing in the Philippines who are exploiting our children online," Perigo added.

He warned that the arrest should be a warning to foreigners attempting to commit sex crimes in the country. "This crime does not pay. You will be arrested, it's just a matter of time."

Lapu-Lapu City, Cordova and Mandaue City are among several hotspots for sex trafficking crimes in Cebu.

New Cebu City Police Chief Gemma Cruz Vinluan, who previously served as the head of the Women and Children Protection Desk in the Philippine National Police's headquarters in Camp Crame, said she would make it a priority to campaign against child abuse, including rape and sex crimes.  – Rappler.com
