Cash assistance of P1,000 per person or P4,000 per family will be distributed through a program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development

President Rodrigo Duterte approved the distribution of cash assistance to certain individuals or households in places under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), announced Malacañang on Thursday, July 29.

The aid distribution will cover Iloilo City and Iloilo province, as well as Cagayan de Oro City and Gingoog City in Misamis Oriental province, said Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque in a Palace press conference.

The assistance will amount to P1,000 per person or a maximum of P4,000 per family.

“The funds are already being downloaded to the local governments,” Roque said.

The funds will be sourced from the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program. AICS, as it is known, is intended to benefit poor, marginalized, disadvantaged, or vulnerable individuals or families.

The four covered areas have been under ECQ since July 15, due to a spike in COVID-19 cases. These areas will continue to be under this strictest quarantine classification until at least August 7.

Roque did not mention how many times individuals or households will receive the P1,000 to P4,000 aid. – Rappler.com
