The new provincial ordinance heeds the call of the DILG that LGUs provide a quiet environment for students attending online classes

A new ordinance limits singing your favorite tunes on a videoke in the province of Cavite to just 3 hours a day.

The provincial ordinance was passed primarily to promote the health of the public by encouraging them to get adequate sleeping hours and also to allow students to have peace and quiet while studying at home.

Vice governor and Sangguniang Panlalawigan presiding officer Jolo Revilla facilitated the passing of Provincial Ordinance No 304-2020 limiting the use of videoke, or using amplifier devices which raise noise levels.

The ordinance authored by Cavite 8th District Board member Reyniel Ambion of the Committee on Peace, Public safety and Order was passed during 61st regular session of the SP via tele-conference. It was unanimously approved by the provincial board members and signed by Governor Juanito Victor ‘Jonvic’ Remulla Jr on October 7, 2020.

Because of this development Cavite is now among the first province to comply with a DILG directive encouraging local government units to restrict neighborhood noise which can distract students who are attending online classes from home.

Under the said ordinance, videoke and other amplified devices can only be used from 5 – 8 pm. Violators would be fined P1,000 or face imprisonment of 30 days.

Last September, Remulla already ordered restrictions on the use of videoke machines.

It was during the strict implement of quarantine rules due to the pandemic when Cavite capped the operation and use of videoke and karaoke machines to between 5 to 8 pm, within residential areas, public streets and road sides.
