Over 5 months into the pandemic, coronavirus cases continue to increase in the Philippines, with over 209,000 confirmed infections reported as of Friday August 28.

Millions of Filipinos continue to be under varying levels of quarantine restrictions and with no near end to the virus in sight, what might the next few months look like?

Rappler reporter Sofia Tomacruz sits down with representatives of the Healthcare Professionals Alliance Against COVID-19 (HPAAC), a coalition of more than 170 health groups representing over a million of the nation’s health workers to talk about the state of the country’s pandemic response.

Earlier this month, the medical community warned the Philippines was losing its battle against COVID-19 as the country’s health system became increasingly overwhelmed.

Joining us are Dr Anna Ong-Lim, Division Chief of the Infectious and Tropical Disease, Department of Pediatrics at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine; Dr Pauline Convocar who is the president of Philippine College of Emergency Medicine, and Dr Aileen Espina,a family medicine specialist and local health systems development consultant in Northern Samar.

HPAAC worked with government agencies, business groups, and other private organizations to recalibrate the country’s pandemic plan and present a road map to recovery. – Rappler.com
