Rappler Talk: Cebu physicians on starting their careers during a pandemic
All the pioneering graduates of the University of Cebu School of Medicine passed their board licensure exam. Watch Rappler Talk here at 8 pm to find out how they were able to pull it off.

The University of Cebu School of Medicine (UCSM), which opened only in 2015, is off to a good start with its first batch of graduates.

So far all of UC’s students from the school of medicine passed the board exam.

“We worked extremely hard for this day and our first batch delivered,” UC Chancellor Candice Gotianuy told Rappler in November 2020.

“It’s no easy task for the pioneering batch to have a 100% passing percentage, but they did it. We thank the deans, the faculty, and the graduate themselves for this impressive feat,” she added.

They also already produced one topnotcher .

The graduates managed to all pass the board despite having to prepare for the grueling exam under quarantine.

Cebu, where they studied medicine and took the exam, was also once a second epicenter in the coronavirus outbreak in the Philippines.

How did they prepare for the exam under these conditions?

And what are they looking forward to as they start their careers in medicine as the pandemic rages in the Philippines?

Rappler Cebu correspondent John Sitchon speaks to new doctors and University of Cebu grads European Henly Sanchez, Bernadette Awit and Gay Sheila Calog on their journeys to passing the board exams under quarantine.
