If everything goes as her lawyers planned and hoped, Senator Leila de Lima can be free by the middle of 2021.
Under court rules, Muntinlupa Judge Liezel Acquiatan has to resolve by February De Lima’s demurrer to evidence in 2 of her 3 charges for conspiracy to commit drug trading.
If those are granted, and she is cleared in two cases, De Lima’s lawyers hope she can be granted bail in the third and last case soon after.
The trial, watched by the world, is at a crossroads as De Lima marks her 4th year in detention on February 24.
Rappler’s justice reporter Lian Buan talks to De Lima’s defense lawyer Rolly Peoro on what went on in the trial and why they are confident that they can win this case for the senator.
