Millions of Filipino Catholics, especially in Metro Manila and 4 surrounding provinces, are observing Good Friday on April 2 in the safety of their homes due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Good Friday is the annual remembrance of Jesus’ death on Calvary, and is traditionally observed through a ritual called the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion at 3 pm, said to be the time of Christ’s death.
This year, as the world continues to battle the COVID-19 pandemic, the Manila Cathedral is offering a livestream of the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion for those who cannot physically attend church services. Other parishes are also airing church services on Good Friday.
The Good Friday service at the Manila Cathedral is led by Bishop Broderick Pabillo, apostolic administrator of the Archdiocese of Manila.
