Maragondon vice mayoral candidate Nolito Angeles Magallanes is killed by his neighbor in General Trias after an altercation

A vice mayoral bet in Maragondon town in Cavite died of several gunshot wounds inflicted by a drunken suspect on Tuesday night, November 16, in another city in the province.

Candidate Nolito Angeles Magallanes, who had already served as vice mayor of Maragondon in 2004-2007, was shot by his drinking buddy, Robert Amoranto, in Lavanya Subdivision, Barangay Bacao 2, General Trias.

The victim, while running for a post in Maragondon, lived in General Trias, which is three towns away.

According to General Trias police, the suspect, in his capacity as security officer of the home owners’ association, confronted Magallanes at the basketball court Tuesday morning because the latter’s vehicle was supposedly blocking the way.

This allegedly didn’t bother Magallanes since he was friends with the suspect – their houses stood across the street from each other. In the evening, they even had a drinking session with friends.

During the drinking session, however, the two ended up having a heated argument until Magallanes decided to just go home.

It was learned that just Tuesday morning, the suspect visited the victim’s parked vehicle on the basketball court inside the said village near EPZA. The suspect Amoranto followed and continued to confront him, and finally pulled out a gun and fired at Magallanes, who had already reached his house.

Magallanes was rushed to the Divine Grace Hospital, also in General Trias, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Amoranto escaped with the murder weapon. He is the target of a hot pursuit operation by the local police.

Magallanes, known to many as Pareng Vice Pogi, lies in state at the chapel in Barangay Poblacion, Maragondon, Cavite. Interment will be announced soon, according to family.

Magallanes leaves behind his wife Nene Broas Magallanes and three children, Niño, Nicole, and Neil. – Rappler.com
